ABOUT ME

From a young age, Athena Dent knew her purpose in life and that was to be a Humanitarian.  Besides being a former Social Worker (12 years), Nursing Assistant (4 years), caring and nurturing infants/children/teens (30 years), Educator (Pre-K Teacher, Advocate, Mentor and Volunteer, she has always had one passion........writing.  She began writing poetry at the age of 14 and even while working in various professions, her writing evolved.  She decided to do screenwriting; she wrote three screenplays and after having her work reviewed; she decided to turn one of her screenplays, "Silk" into a manuscript.  After trying for two years to get an agent to publish her work (and 50 rejection letters), she decided to self-publish her book.  During this time, she went through a DEVASTATING life situation and she used writing as a HEALING factor; this resulted in her writing three books consecutively.

After 25 years of writing; she published her first book- "Silk" in 2009, her second book- "One of a Kind Love" in 2010, her third book- "Francesca's Journey" in 2016 (young adult/education) and in the same year she published her fourth book, "Emerging Cocoon"- sequel to "Silk" (2017 FINALIST- 'PHYLLIS WHEATLEY AWARDS).  In 2014, she completed her fifth manuscript, "The Beginning" (book of  Poetry) and in 2015, she completed her sixth manuscript, "Lady A: The Life of a Teddy Bear" ( a series of 13 mini-books stories and each book will come with a teddy bear).  She is also a Ghostwriter and Editor.  The underlying factors for all of her books are FAITH, LOVE, UNDERSTANDING and DETERMINATION.  One of her philosophies is- THERE CAN ALWAYS BE RESOLUTION.

Mrs. Dent has a B.A. in Human Services, years of medical training/practice and child care experience.  She holds positions in three organizations: Vice President (Autism Project FLOS, Inc.), Secretary (Yonkers African-American Heritage Committee) & Board member (J.
